30-Hour Family Mediation Training

This course is designed to satisfy the 24 classroom hours of training required to mediate court-referred disputes as indicated in the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act § 154.052, Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code Ann. This course meets the Texas Mediator Trainers Roundtable’s requirements and the State Bar of Texas requirements for continuing legal education

This intensive three-day hybrid program is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to mediate family related disputes such as Divorce, Modification, and Suits Affecting the Parent Child Relationship. This course emphasizes the importance of practical experience in becoming an effective mediator. During frequent role-plays, each participant will mediate a variety of disputes with expert feedback. The course is broken down into two different sections: online modules and live training. Participants need to complete the online modules prior to attending the live training.

Participants will:

Review the mediation process and general mediator skills;
Discuss information related to family law and family mediation;
Be introduced to what mediators should expect when conducting family mediations;
Establish a level of comfort with the anticipated emotions disputants will experience during family mediations;
Review ethical considerations associated with family mediation;
Apply mediation techniques in real life mediation situations that will assist in managing conflict situations involving Family related cases.

30-Hour Advanced Family Mediation

Please complete all required fields to enroll in the mediation training course. Due to the hands-on nature of the training, this course includes two days of live training, which can be conducted in person at the Brazos DRC or via Zoom, depending on the class you select. The in-person classes are held at 1737 Briarcrest Drive, Ste 11, Bryan, TX. Please make sure you are signing up for the correct type of live instruction when registering. Any changes or class transfers will require a $25 change fee.

The fee for the 30-Hour Advanced Family Mediation Training Course is $800. Scholarships are available for potential volunteers interested in completing both the 40-Hour Basic training, 30-Hour Advanced Family training, and committing to 1 year of volunteering at the Brazos Dispute Resolution Center. Training fees are due upon registration.

Classes are subject to a 5-person minimum and 15-person maximum. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, then the class will be rescheduled for a later time. If your training is rescheduled, you will be able to transfer to the next class for no charge, or we will issue a full refund.

If the training is not cancelled but the participant needs to cancel at least two weeks before the training, a $150 administrative fee will be subtracted from your refund. If a participant needs to cancel less than two weeks before the training, no refunds will be processed.
